A (GPU) mining rig is a powerful “computer” that has several graphics cards and is used for crypto mining. The miner generates its computing power via the built-in graphics cards, which are used to calculate mathematical equations of the blockchain blocks. For this purpose, several graphics cards are assembled into a mining rig. The computing capacities and the number of GPUs used will then determine how powerful the mining rig will be and, accordingly, how high the revenue generated will be.
GPU mining is the "classic" mining of cryptocurrencies with the help of graphics cards, such as those found in gaming PCs. The graphics chips of the cards are used to calculate the complex mathematical equations of the proof-of-work coins. The good thing about GPU mining is that you can (theoretically) mine any cryptocurrency with the rigs and are not tied to one coin as with ASIC mining.
A mining rig is usually built on a "frame", where all the hardware is installed. In principle, a mining rig is nothing more than a normal home PC, but with more computing power thanks to several built-in graphics cards. In addition to the installed graphics cards, there are also one or more power supply units (depending on how high the power consumption is) and a data storage unit on which the operating system (e.g. Hive OS) is installed. The power supply units and the associated cables in particular should be of very high quality and adapted to the respective hardware so that no components can burn away or catch fire during 24/7 continuous operation. Mining also generates a lot of heat, which is why additional housing fans are installed on the rigs to supply the graphics cards with additional fresh air.
